Business Mentor NY – a program of Empire State Development
Program Update
Mentees and Mentors,
We appreciate your interest in mentorship. Please be advised that after March 31, 2024, the Business Mentor NY Program will cease to operate. However, you can continue to access mentoring services by contacting Entrepreneurship Assistance Centers in your area at esd.ny.gov/eac-directory to obtain one-on-one counseling with your current business idea or small business.
If you would like to continue offering pro bono mentoring services to entrepreneurs or small business owners, please email us at nylovessmbiz@esd.ny.gov with your core business skills, experience or education and your preferred service area.

When it comes down to it, the VITA assistance events can be helpful, and certainly Facebook groups can yield accurate insights for recommendations as well. Even running an organization doesn't guarantee that outside work will always be right, so seeing who is known helps see who is trusted too!

Hi Carolyn - My best finds have always been from referrals. I’d start with anyone you know who is in a similar business. Just ask them who they use and what they think of the service. Next step would be to find businesses in your space that have been around several years and just walk in the door, ask for the owner, introduce yourself and ask if they love their accountant and - if so - who it is. When people have a good vendor, they’re usually very willing to share info. Best of luck !
