Do you want to sell the idea or sell the product? Do you want to manufacture it yourself?

Once you have the patent, it would be a good idea to  have several prototypes made then do a variety of destructive testing to prove that the product is safe for children.

It can take 1-2 years to successfully win a patent. One you have filed you can research which companies sell these types of products. Each will have different requirements for pitching new products.

We are very aware of the patent process. We need to know more about what to do AFTER we win a patent. We are soon to be incorporated, will be doing limited crowd funding and have IP lawyers standing by waiting for $ to proceed. A 'co-development' company is sniffing around. I am active in Start Up TEch Valley and a maker place called, 'TechValley Center of Gravity' in Troy, NY. The corp will sell or lease the patent and royalities will be negotiated. We will never be manufacturers. We are also being advised to get an international patent because European consumers and companies are more recptive to unique designs for baby products. Fabricating good prototypes for beta trials with infants ages 2-6 months is partof our plan. I will not be the primary investigator. A provisional patent will be in place when beta trials start. Our PI will have a good track record with similar research and have several peer reviewed journal articles in her/his cv. PS: Nice photo. You can see mine on LinkedIn under 'pamela chris howard, ccc-slp'. PPS: I used to work at Bassett Healthcare the hospital in Cooperstown. Three years was ENOUGH of that setting. I am way too creative! PPPS: Thank you so much for responding. Overall, I am a bit disappointed with this site! PPPPS: Come to Brown's Brewing co in Troy the first Wednesday of every month at 5:30 and see some cool pitches, etc. go to www.'startuptechvalley' to register. You can spend the night with us in Albany!
