I want to start an after school program for students to take AP Computer Science. I don't need to make money but I need to pay for materials. Non-profit or fiscal sponsor?
AP CS is severely under-taken in the US especially by minority students. Most schools don't even offer it. My alma mater in particular does not offer the course any more. I want to start a program to help high school students and college students. College students majoring or minoring in computer science will go through a one week Java immersive and high school students will participate in a year long after school program aimed to help them pass the test. I'm not interested in making $1,000,000 off this venture at all, I'm more interested in fcilitating the development of college students and high school students, making college students more aware of their skills and giving high school students an option they otherwise would not have. I want to be able to pay the college students a small educartional stipend and have the high school students only pay for the AP Test and not any materials used through out the course. For a 15 student class I expect the cost to be $250 per student but I dont want the student to pay. I believe this can grow into a large city wide venture promoting Computer Science education like never before, I would like to know where do I start?
