Business Mentor NY – a program of Empire State Development

Program Update

Mentees and Mentors,

We appreciate your interest in mentorship. Please be advised that after March 31, 2024, the Business Mentor NY Program will cease to operate. However, you can continue to access mentoring services by contacting Entrepreneurship Assistance Centers in your area at esd.ny.gov/eac-directory to obtain one-on-one counseling with your current business idea or small business.

If you would like to continue offering pro bono mentoring services to entrepreneurs or small business owners, please email us at nylovessmbiz@esd.ny.gov with your core business skills, experience or education and your preferred service area.

How I can help

My professional background

I have wide-ranging experience within the banking and finance industry across many disciplines but have also mentored many individuals and small businesses in NY State. The most invigorating aspect of my career has been constantly striving to build, develop, cultivate and retain teams, with deep individual engagement and a genuine goal of shared success. Mentoring individuals has always been a vital foundation for this. I believe mindful, inclusive and constantly adaptive leadership is essential to growing any sustainable business, particularly during difficult times, and I am eager to simply listen and share what I have learned and observed with those looking to build or start up their own teams and businesses.

How to work with me

What I can offer

I hope to offer careful listening and provide an opportunity for sounding out ideas, issues, or solutions in an unfettered way without providing unwanted advice.

My expectations for a successful mentoring relationship

I think a successful mentoring relationship is a shared journey, fully equal with respect to contribution where both parties can openly listen, think and learn without unnecessary or unreasonable expectations. We can develop any structure or goals for the relationship together.

How entrepreneurs can prepare before we start

No preparations or requirements, just a sense of what areas in your business life you would be open to hearing outside viewpoints and receptiveness to open and honest communication.
