What I need help with

My background as an entrepreneur

My current challenges

I was just accepted into the Oregon SEA program and must write a business plan. I also need to tweak my website and design strategies for social media. I don't have an actual physical prototype door so I hope to leverage my own experience and design samples, plus the credibility of collaborating fabricators, to get some commissions. I need to network with art consultants, interior designers and architects who could commission me for their own projects. I'm pivoting from my previous and current art career, but I have a lot of experience in related areas.

Actions I’ve taken so far

I was just accepted into the Oregon SEA and the NGLCC (National LGBT Chamber of Commerce). I have business licenses for Oregon and Milwaukie and an EIN number. I have a section of my website developed as a brochure. I have about 20 doors designed and ideas and notes for about 100 more. I have networked with three fabricators so far to help create the doors. I've spent a lot of time looking at what else is being done by other custom door builders and bookmarked things like their websites and copy blurbs for inspiration.

My future goals

I want to spend the next ten years growing the business to a steady and very lucrative fine art brand, with projects for private and commercial clients all over the world. I also want this to create lucrative and creative opportunities for other artists and artisans. I want to have enough profit to make large contributions to environmental causes. I want to have a workshop space, a loose collective where other artists and I can collaborate on fabricating the doors. In 10 years I want to have identified a worthy person to take over the daily operations of the business.

My motivations to work with a mentor

I'd love to receive the wisdom of someone who has gone through the process of becoming a successful fine artist/artisan, and who has insight on how to market myself, how to reach out to art buyers and interior designers, and/or what to put in my business plan. Thank you!

About my venture

House of Bliss

House of Bliss is a line of themed doors and doorway environments. You can choose from the themes I've designed, or I’ll work with you to design your own custom themed door. Each door is fashioned by skilled artists and craftsmen, a unique and functional work of art. I think of them as Portals to the Heart's Desire. They can be used for entertainment, meditation, ritual and fantasy. They will create a mood for your home, office, hospitality and wellness space.
