What I need help with

My background as an entrepreneur

My current challenges

This is a single-member LLC. I started as a freelancer and have been very lucky to make profit in the fashion industry during the pandemic. I'd like to take the next step in my business. I'm very much an artist / fashionista; I need to learn how to think and talk like a business woman.

In my industry, sometimes getting a client to pay you is a huge challenge. I need to learn how to negotiate, be firm with contracts, and legally protect myself.

I have no background in business so everything is very new to me. I set up my bank account and realized that I had no idea how to pay myself.

Actions I’ve taken so far

I've formed the LLC. I know my overhead and have a thorough invoicing system. I have clients and make profit.

I have a strong portfolio which will eventually become my company website. You can see my work in the website that I provided. At the current moment, I just advertise as myself. When I get paid, I direct deposit all the money into my business bank account.

My future goals

I just want to make a lot of money and make a name for myself in the fashion industry. I never thought about building a business until this opportunity landed in my lap. So, I have no idea what business goals I have.

Creatively, I want to learn 3D fashion.

My motivations to work with a mentor

I'm a blank canvas. I need to learn how to think, act, and speak as a business woman. I need to learn how to protect and defend myself. The biggest challenge I have is having a client who won't pay me on time. This doesn't happen often (thankfully) but when it does, it causes a deep sense of anxiety. There are so many horror stories of creative people getting financially and / or legally f***d up (Gucci, Sisqo, Walter Mercado). I want to be sure that I'm always making the smartest decision with my business. I'd love to work with a mentor who can give me a sense of confidence. Right now, big financial decisions make me feel so cautious. I'm going to wait a year before I publish my website and market my company. I want to spend this year becoming a confident and respected business woman within the fashion / beauty industry.
